Customs House Museum and Cultural Center - Sunday Family Fund Learning Day: What to do When the Clothes Dryer Quits

WHAT:  This event combines Science, Technology, Art and History in a program that teaches how clothes were washed and dried prior to electricity. Guests will visit the Family Art Studio to learn how the sun dried clothes and helped early settlers in many other ways. Guests will hear stories about the Sun, create their own sun painting or drawing, and make a clothespin.

Lane Motor Museum - A Century of Citroën: 1919-2019

WHAT:  No one approaches automotive engineering and design quite like the French, and of all the French car makers, none has been more innovative or visionary over the last 100 years than Citroën.
From the Traction Avant to the humble-yet-brilliant 2CV, to the revolutionary DS/ID, Citroën engineers were decades ahead of their time. Their ideas are still seen in car design to this day.

Lane Motor Museum is proud to highlight some of the most significant Citroën models from the last 100 years. Come for a guided tour through the last century of Citroën automobiles, led by Education Director Rex Bennett. The tour will last approximately 30 minutes.

 

Seven Islands State Birding Park - Butterfly Foray and Monarch Tagging presented by Zoo Knoxville

WHAT:  Advance registration required. Enjoy the wonder and beauty of flying flowers as we search the park for monarchs and other butterflies. To help scientists understand the monarch migration, we’ll put special tags on the monarchs we’re able to catch during a 1-2 mile walk while learning about the migration and their importance.

Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory - Telescope Nights (Ages 8+)

WHEN:  Friday, October 12, 2018, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

WHERE:Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory, Brentwood

COST: $6.27 per person ($5.00 admission plus $1.27 online handling fee.) Each person must have their own reservation.

NO TICKETS SOLD AT DOOR.  NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES. THIS IS A CLEAR OR CLOUDY EVENT.

WHAT:  The Dyer Observatory telescopes will be set up for gazing, and the observatory will be open for viewing exhibits and speaking with astronomers. The format is “open house” so you may arrive and depart any time during the event. There will not be a formal talk/program on these nights unless otherwise noted. Suggested for ages 8 and up.

Please note:

  • The Seyfert Telescope is located on the second floor of the observatory. There are twenty steps leading to the second floor.

  • For the safety of all observatory guests, closed-toe footwear must be worn.

  • Vehicles larger than a standard-size school bus will not fit through the gate.

  • You do not need to bring a printed ticket; there will be a guest list at the gate.

  • Alert the parking attendant at the gate if you have special parking needs.

  • If your plans change and you can not attend, please let us know so we may release the space to someone else.

Rutherford Arts Alliance Collaborative Show, City Hall Rotunda
