WHAT:  Early in his career, painter Thomas Hart Benton, creator of The Sources of Country Music mural on view in the museum’s Hall of Fame Rotunda, made his own paints using egg yolks, water, and powdered pigments. In fact, when he received his first mural commission in 1931, he was so thrilled that he requested to be paid each day in egg yolks rather than money. Explore the fun science behind making paints, in the tradition of Benton and artists dating back to the European Renaissance. Participants will make their own egg tempera paint. All skill levels welcome. Instructors will provide guidance.
