WHAT: ChattaBrew Tour gives you a behind-the-scenes brewery experience that isn’t available to the general public. On each tour, you’ll visit four different breweries over approximately four hours, tasting their signature brews and seasonal selections while you learn the art and science of their craft. WHAT: Learners will create their own, individual Franken worms in our Spooktacular Saturday Science experiment. Participants' worms will float and move as the result of a reaction between vinegar and baking soda.

WHAT:  Come learn about current exhibits and create museum-worthy pieces! Learn all about circles with a through abstract art and complete a scavenger hunt in our Subaru 360 exhibit. Discover our Eureka! exhibit and get your child’s wheels turning by designing a 2-D model car. Build and race a Lego car and listen to a transportation-themed story time. Workstations will be set up and are recommended for preschool through middle school and require an adult to be present.

 

Wilderness Station - Wildlife Painting (Ages 13+)

WHAT:  Unleash your inner artist! Join us at the Wilderness Station for an artist-led paint-a-long. Have fun and let the paint flow as an instructor leads you step by step through the painting process. The subject matter of the paintings will be wildlife/nature-based and will be great for all skill levels. So, come on out and get creative! Classes will be held inside. All materials are provided.


 

Five in One Social Club - Block Printing Tea Towels

Lane Motor Musuem - Eureka! Innovative Ideas Ahead of Their Time

WHAT:  Throughout history, various car designers and engineers have expanded on the idea of what a car could be. A few of these designs were radical departures from what was considered the norm at the time; cars with three wheels instead of four, off-the-wall styling, or unorthodox engineering. We at Lane Motor Museum are highlighting many examples of these so-called “failed successes” found in the collection. Come for a guided tour through our Eureka! exhibit, led by Education Director Rex Bennett. Each tour will last approximately 30 minutes.

 

MTSU, Art Department @ Todd Hall - Figure Drawing Workshop

WHAT:  Professor Tanya Tewell will conduct a two-hour workshop on observational figure drawing.  It is an introduction to the  challenging and exciting practice of understanding and translating the human form through basic drawing media.

 

Seven Islands Birding State Park - Monarch Butterfly Tagging

WHEN:  Saturday, October 13, Saturday, October 20, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

WHAT: Enjoy the wonder and beauty of flying flowers as we search the park for monarchs and other butterflies. To help scientists understand the monarch migration, we’ll put tracking tags on the monarchs we’re able to catch. Kids of all ages are welcome. We’ll start at 1:00pm with a brief explanation of the monarch migration and its importance. We’ll take a short hike (1-2 miles) through the park to find butterflies and tag as many monarchs as we can. Butterfly nets will be provided, but if you have your own, feel free to bring it. Please note that monarch populations and migration patterns vary. On any day we could see many, few or none. No matter how many we see, we’ll learn about why monarchs and other butterflies are fascinating, their importance and how we can help them. Sturdy shoes are recommended. WHAT:  Calling all citizen scientists! Help us celebrate Tennessee STEAM Festival by participating in our zoo-wide BioBlitz.
