David Corlew, aerialist - Escaping Gravity: Science in the Circus at Patterson Park Community Center

What allows circus artists to flip, release, and catch twenty feet in the air? Come investigate how riggers and trapeze artists assess the forces exerted on their bodies and equipment during performance to stay safe. Join aerialists David Corlew and Megan Mallouk for a duo trapeze performance, chat about science in aerial work, and try out the trapeze for yourself!

Join us at the wilderness station for a program about dinosaurs that once called the Americas home. If you are into dinosaurs and prehistoric animals that used to rome our country than this is the program for you. We will cover what paleontologists know about the range and life histories of a few dinosaurs that once called north, central and south America home.

Tennessee STEM Education Center (TSEC) - Making STEM Learning Meaningful and Authentic for All Students: A Teacher Event

All students have the right to learn about science, technology, mathematics, and engineering in ways that are consequential and compelling to them. As research has increasingly shown that learning is centrally shaped by the interests and concerns of learners and their communities, relating STEM concepts and practices to the realities of students’ lives, generationally and culturally, is crucial. This panel will discuss why this shift in STEM learning is important from the perspective of students, communities, and society at large. Additionally, the panel will discuss what authenticity and meaningfulness looks like in STEM classrooms and other STEM learning environments enacting this ambitious vision, and how that might be different from traditional classrooms.

Bartlett Public Library - Stomp Rockets

WHAT:  Learn about rockets and make your own. Then test your design to see who can send their rocket soaring the furthest. Launching the designs is dependent on cooperative weather.
