Taco Garage - The Physics and Math of Tacos

WHAT: Come to The Webb School to choose from a variety of hands-on activities to increase your STEAM knowledge.  For example, design and build a pendulum that swings for one minute or more.  How can I predict whether a solid or liquid will sink or float when I add it to water?  Framing rectangles, create a stick puppet show, or the leakproof bag: magic or science?  And there will be many more options!

Nashville Public Library, East Branch - Soldering Wearable LED Badges (Ages 12-18)

WHAT:  In this workshop, patrons will work with soldering irons and a pre-designed LED badge kit to learn the basics of soldering and make a wearable lighted badge.

No experience necessary.


Hands On! Discovery Center - Fossil Fun

WHEN:  Tuesday, October 16 - Thursday, October 18, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

WHERE: Hands On! Discovery Center, Gray

COST: $3 per person for members, $5 per person for non-members.

WHAT: Stop by anytime between 1pm-5pm to examine real fossils on National Fossil Day with a “picking” activity featuring micro-sediment from Aurora, NC*.  Play our Fossil or Fake game and use plaster to create your own fossil cast replica to take home.  Children must be supervised at all times. Materials fee of $3 per person for Hands On! Discovery Center members, $5 per person for non-members, while supplies last. (*All fossils and sediment must remain on site for scientific research purposes.)


Trevecca University - Near Space Research Balloon Launch

WHEN: Tuesday, October 16, 2018, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

WHERE: The field on the north side of North Drive, between Trevecca Community Church and the Waggoner Library.

COST: Free.

WHAT:  Come watch a stratospheric balloon launch!  Scientific research instruments will be carried 20 miles high by helium balloon, above 99% of the earth’s atmosphere,  while transmitting live data back to Trevecca’s campus.  Trevecca students and faculty will be available to answer questions about their research and demonstrate how to track and interact with the balloon during its flight.  See http://physics.trevecca.edu/Projects_Balloon.htm for more information on Trevecca’s Near Space Research program.
