Lights on Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year. It is sponsored through the Afterschool Alliance. There is a particular emphasis on targeted advocacy towards elected officials, who are invited to these events (along with parents, and school district officials).

MTSU - Communicating Science Through Storytelling with Andrei Codrescu

Andrei Codrescu is a master story-teller with a longstanding interest in science and technology. He will demonstrate how to put the A in STEAM with a visit that will integrate the two cultures of art and science for a few spell-binding days.

Discovery Center at Murfree Spring - Homeschool Lab: Cow Eye Dissection Lab (2nd-5th Grade)

WHAT:  Explore the parts of the body and functions of organs through hands-on investigations and dissections. This month, to get ready for Halloween, the dissection is on Cow Eyeballs!

MTSU Computer Science Department - Virtual Reality Demo

The MTSU Computer Science department will provide virtual reality demonstrations to the community. Attendees to the event will get to wear virtual reality glasses and use touch controllers, to experience and interact with a synthetic world. This community event is geared toward school-aged children and older.
