Memphis Botanic Garden Alice Adventures in the Garden

WHAT: Immerse yourself in wonder and whimsy at the Garden this Fall. Meet larger-than-life Alice in Wonderland themed sculptures constructed entirely of mosaiculture, the horticultural art of creating giant topiary-like sculptures using thousands of annual bedding plants to carpet steel armature forms. As you explore the Garden you’ll encounter The Red Queen playing her curious version of croquet, Alice spinning through Wonderland, card guards and pawns defending The Chess Set, and the mysterious grin of The Cheshire Cat.

The exhibit combines science, math, art and engineering. It is viewable now through October 22nd 2022. Our hours are 9 am- 6 pm every day.

Hands On! Discovery Center Art Studio STEM

Discovery Center Lantern Parade

WHAT: Join us in collaboration with the Rutherford Arts Alliance for our Inaugural Lantern Parade! Grilled cheese sandwiches will be served by Middle Tennessee Electric, enjoy music and make paper lanterns before the parade begins. Or bring a lantern you have already prepared with a battery or solar powered light. Line up for the parade will begin at 6:30 pm and then we will light up the wetlands as we walk the boardwalk along Murfree Spring.

Hands On! Discovery Center Fabulous Fabrics Discovery Lab Program for National Chemistry Week

WHAT: Join us for this year’s National Chemistry Week theme, Fabulous Fibers: The Chemistry of Fabrics. Explore absorbency, surface tension, and a fun forensic fabric analysis. Then, take a closer look at various fabrics up close with a microscope. The Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.

Children's Museum of Memphis Tree Ring Art Project

WHAT:  In CMOM’s Art and Innovation Lab, guests will create concentric circle drawings to replicate the appearance of tree rings. This science-oriented art project will serve as a lesson in determining the ages of trees through the practice of dendrochronology. An example and how-to visual guide will accompany the project.
